Before writing this post, to seek INSPIRATION I found a short article titled “Small Talk Topics.” It was a list of mostly typical topics, such as the weather, the decor, and traffic. Nothing far from the usual. But in the middle of the list, one of the items was “Childhood Dreams.”
That’s right, CHILDHOOD DREAMS. You know, for when you’ve already talked about all this rain we’ve been getting, you can fire up another casual conversation, “Yeah, when was a kid I always dreamed of being an astronaut but I let that dream die once I realized I was physically and mentally unprepared for a life where I could have the sublime experience of seeing Earth from space. No, no, I like my current job a lot, but I was once a different person who dreamed of living amongst the stars. Anyway, this traffic, right?”
Now, if your childhood dream was to be something like a dumptruck, what are you doing reading this? Get out there and chase that dream.

Tell me more about these… Small Talk Topics
Well, that guy does seem to be familiar with Stormfronts.
Don’t knock the weather; nine-tenths of the people couldn’t start a conversation if it didn’t change once in a while. ~Kin Hubbard
Don’t forget small talk about religion and politics.
After I learned that I couldn’t actually just declare myself a princess when I was 3, I moved onto disgustingly practical things. A construction worker and a cook, specifically. Not a chef, a cook.
I’m not sure that weather is such a safe topic anymore. With the growing concern over global climate change, the subject can quickly change to politics. It might be best to start inventing some interesting childhood dream stories. After all, no one’s going to know if you just made them up.
My childhood dream was to be a dragon.
It’s still my dream, actually . . .
